60 teaching hours*

Supervised; paid or volunteer in an instructional capacity with ages 4 – adult.

  • Working/volunteering in a classroom
  • After school programs
  • Working in a daycare
  • Tutoring (Zoom or in-person)
  • Camp counselor
  • Teaching sports (swimming, soccer, basketball, etc.)
  • Teaching bible study or Sunday school
  • Training new employees at a job
  • YMCA
  • Boys & Girls Club
  • Center for Civic Engagement
  • Working/volunteering at a science center
  • Working/volunteering at a pre-school
  • TCH_LRN 301 hours

20 cultural hours*:

Supervised; paid or volunteer. Working with or learning about people from diverse populations. These hours should be related to diversity, equity, and/or inclusion.

  • Working with special education or ELL students
  • Attend conferences
  • Attend workshops
  • Attend cultural events (see page 2 for a list of events)
  • Attend guest speaker events
  • Watch the WSU events website: WSU EVENT
  • Book clubs surrounding culture/diversity
  • Watching documentaries surrounding culture/diversity
  • Working at the Special Olympics
  • Center for Civic Engagement
  • TCH_LRN 301 hours

*Experience must be within the last 3 years (at the time of application to program). Hours must be completed by the end of the semester in which you are applying to the Teacher Education Program. It is highly recommended that at least half of your hours are served with the age group you plan to teach.

Cannot count towards hours:

  • Babysitting
  • Nannying
  • Big Brother/Sister
  • Observation hours
