Add-On Endorsements: Pathway 2

Adding an endorsement through Pathway 2

Certified teachers are eligible to take part in this program.

Pathway 2 can be completed in any of our student teaching centers (Greater Puget Sound, Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver).

For the sake of planning, we’ll let you know that the entire process could take a couple months.

To add an endorsement, follow these steps:
  1. Pass content test in new area.
  2. Fill out Form 4422 from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). This form shows the district supports them adding the endorsement and completing WSU’s Pathway 2 program.
  3. Apply to Pathway 2 program. You’ll submit the content test and the OSPI form (4422) with this application.*
  4. We (WSU) will secure a field supervisor for you.
  5. Pay the Pathway 2 fee (currently $1,400). When payment clears, we will advise you of this. This usually takes a couple weeks.
  6. Schedule and attend pre-observation sessions with your WSU-assigned supervisor, mentor teacher and building administrator. Prepare products as outlined in the Performance-Based Pedagogy Assessment (PPA).
  7. Be observed teaching in the new endorsement area by the WSU supervisor a minimum of two times and a maximum of four times. Please note: All competencies on the PPA must be demonstrated within four observations for the endorsement to be added. If all competencies are not demonstrated within this time period, the endorsement request will be denied.
  8. The field supervisor submits the PPA to us. You should verify that we have this.
  9. Submit the Pathway 2 Program Completion Checklist.
  10. We will then recommend you for the add-on endorsement through E-Certification. In the interim you will receive a temporary 180-day permit with the new endorsement.
*If you have previously submitted unofficial content-test results, you should make sure WSU has your official content test scores.
